Sunday, 22 May, 2016 - 08:30 to 15:30

Distance:

400km

Stops:

504 Centre Rd Bentleigh (Cafe J'adore), Walhalla in the Foothills of Mt Baw Baw

Occasion:

Arbitrary

Captain:

Graham Solomon

Plan:

Make good with the last good weather ride. Yes it's a long one!!   400Kms round trip.  We leave the cafe at 08:30 sharp ( if we get participants ).

Walhalla is nestled in the foot hills of Mt Baw Baw. It's an old gold mining town. I have never been there before, so am interested to see.

We can go one of two routes. The quickest route is straight up the M1 to Moe and then turn off to Erica and then Walhalla or we can go via Warburton & Noojee a more interesting trip but longer.

See the attached map for details.

Report:

Was a great day for riding. Was a long ride 420kms.

We left with 7 participants:- Volvi, Roi, Mike B, Rod Rabinov, Sergey and his friend, and Graham.

Volvi and Richard left us before we got to Walhalla.

We took the route of the M1 to Pakenham, Then on to Launching Place, Warragul via the Mt Baw Baw tourist road, back on the M1 to Moe, then on to Walhalla via Erica.

Walhalla is nestled in a very steep valley. It was an old gold mining town but is now just tourist town. It has it's own little railway and many scenic walks including tours of mine shafts.

The best thing about Walhalla is there is NO Mobile Phone facilites there.

The road from Moe to Erica is fabulous with mixtures of twisties and stretches of straight road, little traffic.

I can recommend this tourist town to anyone. Simply beautiful.
