Distance:

Stops:

Plan:

The proposed ride is to take place on December 20th starting 08:30 providing the weather is not going to be too hot or wet.

We will be leaving the cafe at Centre Rd, Bentleigh and heading off to Healesville via Pakenham, Launching Place. We will stop for 20 minutes at Healesville. Then on to Eildon via the Black Spur. Eildon is good stop to re-fuel. Then we go on to Jamieson. ( 60kms of twisties ). From there, depending on time, we may go up to Mt Buller and if we can find an eatery that is open, stop there for lunch. For those who have never been to Mt Buller, the road going up there is like going up to Arthur's seat except a lot more of it. The scenery / views are spectacular. From Mt Buller we come down the same road and head off to Mansfield for another fuel stop and lunch if we don't have lunch up at Mt Buller. From Mansfield we travel back to Yea via Bonnie Doon where we will cross a bridge over Lake Eildon, where one can see just how low the water mark has fallen in 12 months. Lake Eildon is the largest man made lake in Australia. It is used for Fishing, Recreational water sports, Camping, Hydro-Electric and Irrigation. From Bonnie Doon we head back to Yea. The road from Mansfield to Yea is fairly straight but of course single lane most of the way. From Yea we head back to Melbourne via Whitllesea. We should be hitting Melbourne by 06:00pm.

It will be a long and challenging ride. Especially for those who have not done a long ride before. However, we will be stopping on a rgular basis, be it to re-fuel, eat, toilet stop, or just to strech ones legs.

We will be leaving the Cafe at 08:30 sharp.

Confirmation of the ride going ahead will be sent via email no later than Friday 18th December.

Report:

Postponed due to extreme heat and bushfires. We will definitely do this ride soon.  Instead a group of bikes including Mark, Max, Josh, David H, David D, Sam S, Sam B, Alex and Rod took off in the heat for Mornington the long way. After a break there Max, David D and Sam S headed for Arthurs Seat while David H left for home the rest of us rode through Frankston and via the Beach Rd. to Beaumaris where Josh, Mark and Alex stopped for coffee. Rod and I kept on going home.
