Ride to: Bright

Start Finish:

Friday, 24 February, 2017 - 07:00 to Wednesday, 1 March, 2017 - 16:00

Distance:

1800km

Stops:

17 Ward Avenue Caulfield North, Mansfield

Occasion:

Arbitrary

Captain:

Sam Blumenstein

Plan:

For those leaving at the Friday morning early leave time...7.00am at 17 Ward Avenue Caulfield North we will be following this basic route to get to Bright. We will leave this address no later than 7.30am so please be on time.

At our meeting tonight I reminded those who came to...

Bring anti bug spray for the moscuitos that are a problem this summer. There is Ross River bug getting around so we need to be careful. Bring sun screen and use it. Don't forget your wet weather gear, have tyres pumped up and a full tank of fuel. Bring a bottle of water and a snack. We will be stopping once out of the city for a short fress/coffee stop. If you like swimming bring bathers since the Bogong Motel has a nice pool. Most importantly bring layers of clothes...the weather is looking good but in the region we are going you can experience temperature differences between normal ambient temps of 25 degrees all the way down to 2-3 degrees in the high areas like Falls Creek.

The annual Bright ride is on again for 2017. If you do only one long distance ride a year, this should be the one. Some of the best riding roads in Australia leading to Bright and then coming home. In between with our base in Bright we will do great rides each day in the surrounding country. There are options for different rides some may prefer and others will prefer to do a different version.

Basically, the rides in these areas are some of the best riding roads in Australia so no matter which way you go each day you will see breathtaking biking roads, beautiful scenery and the real Australian bush and counrty towns. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

Individuals can take their pick of accomodation but we have used the Bogong View Motor Inn at 35 Delaney Avenue Bright and it is clean, biker friendly, very reasonably priced and only a short walk into the city centre.

Those who will not be going on the Tasmania trip should strongly consider this alternative. In fact you can do both since the Bright group will be back well in advance of the Tasmanian group departure date.

If you are interested in Bright please let me know. Sam 0418303044

Report:

Well To say that this years Bright Ride was a success is frankly an understatement. Riders present were Sol, Graham, Mark, Sam S, Sergey, Josh, Volvi, John Z and myself from YOW. Our Sydney friends who came to join us were Aubrey and Matius. With perfect weather and not a drop of rain except the morning we left Melbourne, the riding and social interaction was magnificent.
